I think the aroma you speak of is the fish oil used in some cat food. Dog food generally uses offal and trimmings, the standard for many pates, terrines, and gallantines.

The article was amusing. I feel pretty sad for the ones who can’t tell the difference between the two. Maybe they never had a good pate?!? I have never tasted cat food and nor any desire but I have smelled it and I can say the two smell dramaticly different. I have had many great pates in my day. ;P
