Really?!?
So, this morning I read the wonderful Pernicious Barflies story, and right after reading said story, I was called into work on my day off to wait on a party of twenty women.
I agreed to come in, thinking to myself, "I can always just grat them, besides all extra money is good money."
The first one arrives early to inform me they'll all be needing seperate checks. Not cool, but atleast I know now. When the host arrived she also let me know about the seperate checks. Not a problem, I tell her. "oh thank you so much! We'll tip you very generously for being so accomodating."
For those of you who have never served people, the above sentence is the kiss of death. I have a deep distrust for any form of verbal tip.
The meal progresses without a glitch. Maragritas and enchiladas are had by all. All the middle aged women are telling me how nice it is for me to have done seperate checks as I am passing them out.
In all honesty it really wasn't that big of an invonvenience, but it's nice to get recognition for going above and beyond.
All nicities stopped when the bills hit the table. I was told not once, but four times "We will not be coming back. These margaritas are just too expensive!" Another one yells from the other end, "Yeah! Next time I'm going to Chili's." The discussion about the cost of a Chili's Presidente vs. our's ensues as I walk away to tell my manager about the uprising.
Real quick side bar: The drinks at my work are all made with fresh juice, no mixes. All margaritas are sweetened with agave nectar, and we don't serve well liquor. So there $7.50 margarita came with Herradura Silver, fresh lemon & lime juice & agave nectar. Besides a Presidente at Chili's is $7.79!!!!
The manager goes out & apologizes. Explains the quality of the drinks, and that the Grand Marnier floats they asked for costed $2 extra, but no one even listened. The parade of bad boutique clothing leaves, and I walk around to collect my money.
The trolls who ordered the floats have decided they aren't going to pay for them and shorted me four bucks. I didn't add it all up until I got home, but those broads stiffed me by almost 16 bucks!
I hope they end up in the same hell as the pernicious bar fly.
These people should have to wear a special hat so you can see them coming!!!

That is ridiculous. I guess common decency is just not that common.
Ugh! How ugly is that! I'm surprised you still couldn't auto grat them, even though you had to split all the checks. They are still considered one big party. They should come to my place. We charge 15 bucks for most of drinks, granted we use fresh juices and 3oz pours. It usually scares off the cheapies that we get on the weekends from the hotel! (Too bad it doesn't scare the foreigners. The dollar is so low compared to their currency.)
Simone! This is why if you're in the biz or ever have been you've GOT to tip better than average. Oh, by the way, everything was great the night I came into the bistro, but ( always with the BIG BUT ) the foie portion was a little small for the price. Everything else was awesome, including blueberry creme brulee which sounded scary. I'm really glad to hear the escargot are on the menu. I'll be back! --- JC
Ah, the Golden Girls, and you handled them with such grace Simone. But the good news is: They won't be back. We should say a small prayer of strength for whatever undeserving establishment will be forced to wait hand and foot on their class act.
I have had the same group before as well,and I have to say that they stiffed me on the tip as well as said that the food wasn't good But they ate all of it !My personal oppinion is that all these people need to be trained on how to dine out and they don't deserve to dine in some of the finer places around the city!But like we all Know that it all balances out in the long run that just part of it!sorry to here that though that makes for a real shitty day off!
Gotta agree with Richard on the chains! hey hey sanderly not all EDHillers have sugar cane stuck up their %$#^....altho alot probly do...nver-the-less this bunch of classy ladies obviously need a life! sorry u had to go thru that Simone :(
The only thing worse than a bunch of El Dorado Hills house frau's are INTEL people! Since I see you work in Folsom too, you know what I'm talking about! I'll have to give your new restaurant a tr. I have yet to hear any buzz about it.

Seriously, if you're going to drop "Chilis" as if it's a reputable and quality eating establishment, then you should stick to what you know and only eat at chain restaurants.
