Another reason why Friday's sucks!
Okay here is something that is ridiculous to me... a service charge for SPLITTING checks. Here's how it all went down:
A group of us just came back from a ridiculous "corporate" retreat. Since Fridays was close to our work we decided to get some dinner before heading home. Being the curteous former-server that I am, I told our waitor that we would like seperate checks before we ordered. (NOTE: this would be an awesome time to tell us there is a charge for this "service.")
He says "oh yes that won't be a problem" and forgot to bring my iced tea.
There were 8 of us, so he kindly reminded us of the 18% gratuity. When we got the checks we noticed 2 charges (gratuity AND split check fee). Everyone else at the table groaned, but it didn't seem to bother them as much as it did me. On our way out I asked why such a charge exists. I was told "on parties of 8 or more it is too much trouble for our server to keep track of everyone's food."
Okay people here is the thing... Everyone has a station for which they are responsible. A server can have two tables of 4 and split all their checks no problem but can't split ours? It's called...being ORGANIZED. I hated splitting checks as much as the next person, but a table who would tell me in advance obviously had my interests in mind and was being curteous. Since when is there a charge for doing your freakin job? And here's the thing...who is benefiting from such a charge? I gaurentee it is not the server...but Fridays! And put this into perspective, banks charge you less than this when using a different ATM but Fridays is gonna make an extra $2.50 off my 11 dollar meal on top of my tip? ROBBERY! and BAD MANAGEMENT if your servers can't handle some split checks. I got myself through college because of the restaurant biz, and let me tell you I didn't walk home with over 20% gratuity by adding fees, I did it because I cared about the service I gave, especially with large parties.
Typically I give 4 bucks for under $20 tabs when dining out. But when I am insulted in such a way, I will not go above and beyond, our server and Fridays sure didn't.

So many things wrong with this I don't know where to begin...
First of all... Friday's? tsk shame on you...lol
Ok ok, on to what matters...18% is an auto-grat on a large table there???? Fzzzz!
And charging for splitting bills is just ridiculous.
Thats crazy, sad to say I work at the Friday's here on Howe in Sac and I have never heard of any service charge like that in over two years. Its just plain absurd. Sounds like a lazy ass server, because I know it would take me no more than five minutes to split a check of eight people. Well I guess it just adds more onto our already negative image....
Chantel that is 2.50 EACH PERSON! THEIVERY!!!!!!! Neither the service or the food is worth that extra price tag.
I am appalled, why doesn't OG have this? And you know what? If the servers can't keep track of the food, how can we trust him to make sure I get my food? It always shocks me as to how hard it is for some people to split checks, but I just make it clear "If you move around, I wont be able to keep everything in order, so if you stay in your seats, yes I can do that for you" If they move, they have broken the contract. And 2.50??? I thought you were going to say like a dollar or something. Sheer robbery. Here's the plan: we are going to go in with 7 people. And then, split our checks.... haha, sweet justice!
so true! it was really all about convenience. i didn't want to eat there.
